First Day Out

Hey Foodie Friends!

Welcome to SlightKitchenWerk.com. Last time you were here, it was probably about a year or so ago and so much has changed. So where have I been? Well, grab some hot tea, keep on reading and I’ll fill you in.

SELF- PRESERVING

January 2017, I accepted a new job in Detroit, Michigan and moved there from Ohio shortly after. While the new position was still in my desired career field, finance, the company’s initiatives and values (or lack thereof) just did not align with where I saw myself headed.

So here I am in this new state, with a new job I hated. I was away from friends and family and trying to overcome personal issues at the same time. All this newness had me STRESSED and down and out most of the time. So, I took a step back from posting to figure out what I needed to do to get out of the funk I was in. The time away gave me the opportunity to focus on myself and to process all the changes that were happening in my life. I prayed, talked through it and changed my mindset.

With resilience and a lot of hard work, December 2017, I accepted a new position literally on a leap of faith and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I made last year. Currently, in my new role, I’m learning every day, becoming a better financial professional and have the flexibility to do more of what I love again!

LOVING

Yep, you read that right... the L word got ya girl and I’m loving every minute of it. Rewinding quickly, my boyfriend Armand and I have known each other for five years and have been great friends since we met. After losing touch for a while, we reconnected August 2016. We got our friendship back on track and soon after, it blossomed into a beautiful relationship. We have been inseparable ever since!

The past year and a half has been nothing short of amazing. Armand motivates me daily and pushes me to be the best version of myself. Even throughout the aforementioned struggles, he was right there by my side and remained a constant ray of light. Best of all, he supports my dreams. He’s always the first to try my new food creations and provides honest feedback which has allowed me to fine tune my cooking skills, tremendously. I’ve learned many new techniques and created dishes I had no clue how to make all while satisfying his cravings lol. Thanks for loving me through thick (literally, I gained like 15 pounds lol,) thin and everything in between.

Side note: He’s also a pretty good cook. Maybe a blog feature from him someday? Who knows.

TRAVELING

In the past year-ish, I have visited 4 countries and 13 cities. During my travels, I made it a point to try as much local cuisine as possible. Trying the foods of the world brings me so much joy. After introducing foreign dishes to my palette and calling out things I taste, I love to replicate these dishes at home. While traveling, I purchased local ingredients in efforts to keep the authenticity of my re-creations. This is definitely one of my favorite parts of cooking. Utilizing the  flavor profiles of the world makes my food fun, vibrant and NEVER boring. I plan on continuing my travels, trying new foods and sharing with you all right here on my blog. Stay tuned! :-)

COOKING (well, duh)

Truth is I never stopped cooking. This past year, I’ve cooked more than ever and have developed my skills to the point where I even amaze myself at how great some of my creations turn out. But due to self-doubt (and laziness) most of these creations I never photographed to share with anyone... FAIL. But with every meal (and everyday really,) I’ve thought about my supporters and felt as though I am letting you all down by not posting any content. So, I am changing that.

On my new site you will find the services I provide and my blog where I’ll share tasty recipes, restaurant & product reviews, kitchen tips and foodie news. I vow to update it as frequently as possible and promise to stay connected.

So enough about me, let me help you! What type of recipes and tips would you like to see from Slight Kitchen Werk? Leave comments below.

Foodie Love,

Erin
